“Green” paper cups worse for environment than Styrofoam

“Have you ever wondered what happened to the convenient Styrofoam cups that used to hold your coffee? Angela Logomasini of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, tells us where they’ve gone: “Environmental activists campaigned to eliminate Styrofoam packaging because they claimed it wasn’t recyclable or energy efficient. Ironically, the Greens’ solution has proven disastrous by their own standards. New research shows that the average 16-ounce polystyrene cup uses a third less energy and a third less so-called ‘greenhouse gases’ than does a same-sized paper cup with sleeve. Considering many people double-cup their hot coffee, it is plain that environmentalists often create more problems than they solve.””
